Job Description:
Overall Job Purpose: The Network Engineer will provide technical support in the design, development, implementation, commissioning, and maintenance of the control system network. They will identify requirements and shortcomings in the network, develop functional and design specifications, and ensure the resilience and reliability of the network environment.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct reliability analyses on the control system network.
- Design and implement new network solutions and enhance the resilience of the existing network.
- Investigate data network faults and coordinate fiber installation and splicing activities.
- Perform fiber tests, installation of fiber optic equipment, and network equipment installation.
- Generate and update network drawings and coordinate proactive measures to improve operations.
- Conduct test environments and provide user network training.
- Understand the control philosophy of the process plant and assist in various tasks delegated by the supervisor.
Job Specific Competencies:
- Troubleshooting control system networks and fiber networks.
- Knowledge of communication protocols for Profibus-DP, Profibus-PA, and Industrial Ethernet.
- Familiarity with Siemens network components and industrial control systems.
- Practical skills in Profibus DP and PA installations and fault finding.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software.
- Understanding of fiber optic installation, testing, and fault finding.

- Excellent communication skills, particularly with non-technical staff.

- Ability to prioritize workload and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a basic understanding of control system topologies.
Experience Required:
- 4+ years of experience in Fiber Optic splicing.
- 5+ years of experience in control system networks.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial automated control systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or related field.
- Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
- Ability to register as a member of the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia (ERB).
