The Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) invites applications from qualified individuals to fill the position of Director of Technology Development and Planning. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and advancement of small industries in Tanzania.
Job Summary:
As the Director of Technology Development and Planning, you will play a crucial role in planning, research, technical services, and technology development for the SME sector. Your responsibilities will include coordinating activities, conducting research, and promoting the commercialization of research results relevant to small-scale industries. Additionally, you will oversee the operations of Technology Development Centers (TDCs) and facilitate the transfer and spread of technology across the country.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, research, and provide technical services for technology development in collaboration with regional offices.
- Undertake sectorial studies to identify potential economic opportunities for small-scale industries (SSI).
- Coordinate and oversee the operations of Technology Development Centers (TDCs).
- Conduct industrial research to introduce appropriate technology to small-scale investors.
- Recommend technological changes to promote the use of local raw materials.
- Review Regional Office projects and programs against organizational objectives and strategies.
- Develop annual work plans and budgets for the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports on departmental activities for submission to management.
- Conduct staff work evaluations and performance assessments.
- Identify strategic partners and work towards safeguarding the organization’s interests in partnerships.
- Seek new opportunities and research new products for small-scale production, recommending quality standards.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director General.
Qualification and Experience:
- Holder of a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or equivalent qualifications from recognized institutions.
- Must be registered by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Professional Engineer.
