Position Description:
Roster: 6 Weeks On / 3 Weeks Off

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit two Safety Officers to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure safe work practices, including attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, using required PPE, and reporting incidents/accidents.
  2. Monitor the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
  3. Lead and influence change while developing a positive safety culture.
  4. Provide support and guidance to Safety Representatives.
  5. Conduct on-the-job coaching and training to employees on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices.
  6. Demonstrate commitment to the completion of health and safety activities.
  7. Timely and accurate completion of safety daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports.
  8. Conduct scheduled weekly and monthly safety meetings.
  9. Maintain accurate information in the Management of Change (MOC’s) database.
  10. Participate in the review of Standard Operating Procedures.
  11. Conduct workplace inspections and audits as required.
  12. Assist in incident and accident investigations.
  13. Monitor and follow up on incident investigation recommendations to ensure actions are completed and implemented.
  14. Ensure compliance with relevant Tanzanian Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  15. Correct and report safety hazards when observed.
  16. Actively support and participate in safety initiatives or training as required.
  17. Assist with the facilitation of formal risk assessments.
  18. Ability to conduct OHS Incident and Accident Investigation.
  19. Ability to conduct OHS Hazards Identification and Risk Assessment.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety management or Equivalent bachelor’s degree.
  • ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor (Passed Certificate).
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Risk Assessment Certificate.
  • National Occupational Safety and Health Certificate I & II.
  • A Valid Tanzania Driving License.

Experience and Competencies Needed:

  • 3-5 Years’ Experience in Technical OHS Practice in underground Mining Operation.
  • ISO Management System Internal and External Auditor, preferable ISO 45001:2018.

Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of Regulatory Requirements within Mining Industry Regulations- Occupational Health and Safety, Mining, Explosives, ICMI Code, Environmental Laws, and IFC Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Computer Skills- MS Office (words, excel, power point).
  • Communication, Fluent in written and verbal English & Swahili.
  • Problem Solving Techniques Certificate (Incident and Accident investigating) ICAM.
  • Formal Training Qualification in Risk Management, Accident Investigations, and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Workplace OHS Inspections.
  • OHS Monitoring and Performance Evaluation.
