Job Overview: The Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Monitoring Officer will play a pivotal role in providing regulatory compliance expertise and guidance. The primary responsibilities include offering compliance advice, risk stewardship, and ensuring the bank’s adherence to laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Key Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the business model, strategy, and products to provide oversight and support for sustainable business growth.
  2. Build and maintain effective relationships with business and support function stakeholders, offering timely and quality compliance-related advice.
  3. Provide advice and challenge to business departments, including product design, new initiatives, projects, and transactional advice.
  4. Oversee Customers’ Complaint Handling Process, ensuring the resolution of material complaints for enhanced customer experience.
  5. Proactively monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact, and identify potential risks.
  6. Review business responses to regulatory feedback and ensure appropriate corrective actions are initiated.
  7. Identify and assess compliance risks, ensuring appropriate systems and controls to mitigate risks.
  8. Maintain management MI/trackers for all aspects of compliance coverage, overseeing risk acceptance and/or mitigating action plans.
  9. Analyze and interpret data to produce reports identifying emerging areas of risk/vulnerability.
  10. Anticipate horizon compliance risks, develop effective strategies to mitigate, and propose control improvements.
  11. Provide reports to relevant business risk and control committees on key compliance risks and issues.
  12. Support the development and implementation of compliance programs in response to evolving regulatory, legal, and business requirements.
  13. Perform research and prepare summaries of legislation/regulation for internal departments.
  14. Prepare corporate reports and documents for various regulatory authorities.
  15. Support key regulatory change programs and projects across the bank.
  16. Promote and embed a culture of openness, trust, and risk awareness.

Competencies:

  1. Good understanding and appreciation of compliance risk management practices.
  2. Strong analytical skills and confidence in interrogating data, processes, and interviewing stakeholders.
  3. Sharp business acumen, including the ability to assess risks.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  5. Self-empowered with personal authority, integrity, and ethics.
  6. Proactive and creative approach to work, self-motivated, and pragmatic.
  7. Exposure to effective risk management and the ability to promote a strong risk management culture.

Qualification and Skills:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university, preferably in Law, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  2. Additional relevant compliance-related professional certifications will be an added advantage.
  3. At least 5 years of banking experience in Compliance, Risk management, Governance, Audit, or related fields.
  4. Experience in designing and implementing Compliance programs, policies, and procedures.
