About MDH: Management and Development for Health (MDH) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to addressing public health priorities in Tanzania and globally. Our focus encompasses communicable diseases like HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria; Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child health (RMNCH); Nutrition; Non-Communicable Diseases of public health significance, as well as Health System Strengthening. MDH collaborates with various local and global institutions, Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MOHCDGEC); President’s Office Regional Authorities and Local Government (PORALG); donor agencies; academic and non-academic institutions; implementing partners; civil society, community-based, and faith-based organizations, among others.
MDH Operations in Dar es Salaam: In Dar es Salaam, MDH supports the Government of Tanzania through the Municipal councils of Dar es Salaam City Council; Temeke, Kinondoni, Kigamboni, and Ubungo Municipal Councils along with Amana, Mwananyamala, and Temeke Regional Referral Hospitals. Focused on implementing HIV/AIDS programs to support People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), MDH aims to strengthen the care and treatment of PLWHA.
Job Title: Medical Officer (1 Post) Location: Mwananyamala RRH, Reports to: Facility In-charge
Job Summary: The Medical Officer will ensure the delivery of quality HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to clients, providing technical support to health facility teams. Supporting the CTC In-charge, the Medical Officer ensures the efficient implementation of care and treatment for PLHIV at the respective facility under the guidance of the facility in-charge, CTC in charge, and other relevant health facility staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical care to HIV/AIDS patients in line with standard care and treatment.
- Assess and diagnose clinical patient problems, order diagnostic tests, and prescribe medication.
- Offer consultations to HIV-positive patients on the wards.
- Coordinate referral and management of complex patients through liaison with senior care.
- Maintain accurate medical records for Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Contribute to performance monitoring initiatives and routine data use activities.
- Support continuous quality improvement activities along client care and treatment.
- Support the Site Manager in follow-up initiatives for improved linkage, retention, and viral suppression.
- Participate in Clinic team meetings and strategic planning.
- Provide on-the-job mentorship to clinic staff for quality TB/HIV, general patient care, and specialized care referrals.
- Participate in weekly Continuing Medical Education sessions.
- Contribute to research efforts as appropriate.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine with current registration from the Medical Council.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in HIV/AIDS care and treatment.
- Additional training in HIV/AIDS care and opportunistic infections is an added advantage.
- Up-to-date technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS clinical care and ART.
- Understanding of client confidentiality and high ethical conduct.
- Good communication, organizational, and management skills.
- Excellent command of Swahili and English languages (written and oral).
- Basic computer literacy (word processing, Excel, internet, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work both individually and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure and stringent timelines.
