Job Overview:
CCL Global Sub-Saharan Africa is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to join their team in Dar es Salaam. This role involves a fly in/fly out rotation from Dar es Salaam, with a pre-construction roster of 8 weeks on/3 weeks off and a post-construction roster of 6 weeks on/2 weeks off. Company accommodation is provided. The Environmental Manager will play a critical role in evaluating and managing the environmental impact of mining operations, ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations, and implementing sustainable ecological practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing environmental compliance and developing policies, procedures, and systems to ensure adherence to environmental laws and regulations.
- Implementing strategies to mitigate environmental impacts from construction projects and mining operations.
- Conducting inspections to identify potential environmental hazards and infringements.
- Researching cutting-edge technology for environmental issues and directing staff within the environmental department.
- Devising plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change impacts.
- Administering recycling efforts and managing processes for waste treatment and disposal.
- Developing methods to minimize the impact of mining on the environment and surrounding communities.
- Collecting samples, conducting laboratory work, and analyzing pollutants.
- Rehabilitating land, water, and air affected by mining and planning mine closure.
- Tracking ESG markers for sustainability reports and managing environmental costs within budget.
Candidate Requirements:
- Advanced degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Sciences.
- 10-15 years of experience in project or team management, preferably in the mining or resource sector.
- Proficiency in project planning, report writing, and analytical skills.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Swahili is an advantage.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
- 10-15 years of experience in project or team management.
- Mining or resource sector experience.
- Excellent computer, reporting writing, and analytical skills.
