Background and Purpose of the Assignment: WFP Tanzania is executing its new Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2022-2027, concentrating on supporting the Tanzanian government in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically the Zero Hunger 2030 agenda. As part of this, WFP Tanzania is integrating innovation to pilot new solutions, aligning with Tanzania’s strategic objectives and working closely with the WFP Innovation Accelerator in Munich.

Standard Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate or diploma in the relevant field. A bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Experience: Five years in innovation services, including at least two years in startup advisory, the food system ecosystem, agriculture, emerging technologies, engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Familiarity with human-centered design methodologies, digital tools, and emerging technologies. Strong business writing and verbal communication skills. Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and proficiency in Kiswahili.

Organizational Context: The Tanzania Country Office is hiring an Innovation Associate to support the Innovation Unit’s growth, identifying and managing innovation projects and activities.

Job Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer for Innovation, the Innovation Associate will support managing innovation projects and services offered by the Innovation Unit.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. New Concept Design and Project Management:
    • Support innovation scoping in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Identify, design, and develop new concepts related to emerging technologies in line with WFP’s operational needs.
    • Assist in managing innovation projects in collaboration with other units.
  2. Capacity Building and Communication:
    • Assist in organizing and managing training sessions and workshops on innovation methodologies.
    • Document best practices and share insights with teams.
    • Contribute to monthly reports, case studies, and knowledge management initiatives.
  3. Support for Partner Engagement:
    • Map and network within the country-level food system innovation ecosystem.
    • Engage potential partners from the innovation ecosystem.
    • Coordinate with partners for innovation project management.
  4. Coordination & Event Management:
    • Coordinate with internal units and external stakeholders to foster an innovation ecosystem.
    • Assist in planning and executing WFP innovation-related events and workshops.
    • Liaise with internal units for the smooth functioning of the innovation unit.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Duration: 12 months (Extension subject to performance and funding availability).
  • Open to Tanzanian Nationals only.
