Background:
The USAID Lishe Mtambuka project, a five-year initiative funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, focuses on strengthening health and food market systems to promote optimal nutrition-related behaviors in targeted regions of Tanzania. As a crucial partner in implementing this project, TCDC seeks experienced and dedicated individuals to fill the role of Social Behavior Change (SBC) Officers.
General Position Summary:
As an SBC Officer, you will oversee SBC strategies at the council level to ensure improvements in WASH and nutrition-related behaviors. Working in collaboration with various stakeholders, your role will contribute to the project’s objective of enhancing the adoption of optimal nutrition-related behaviors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Liaise with multi-sectoral departments at regional and district levels to plan and implement community-level SBC activities supporting nutrition and WASH objectives.
- Participate in adapting and designing SBC messages related to WASH and nutrition behaviors.
- Oversee the implementation of community-level WASH and Nutrition SBC activities in the districts.
- Collaborate with multi-sectoral district government staff, community leaders, CHWs, CLTs, and model farmers to implement SBC strategies reaching key nutrition and WASH target audiences.
- Build the capacity of CHWs, CLTS, and model farmers through training, orientation, coaching, and supportive supervision to enhance their skills in promoting nutrition and WASH-related behaviors.
- Coordinate the implementation of WASH and nutrition interpersonal communication, mass media, social media, and mid-media activities at regional and district levels.
- Liaise with multi-sectoral departments to ensure mutual collaboration between Councils/districts and the project SBC activities.
- Gather feedback on the implementation of SBC activities in the districts and provide technical support to improve WASH and Nutrition SBC activities.
- Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of SBC activities in districts, including routine data collection, reporting, supportive supervision, and presenting findings to regional and district multi-sectoral stakeholders.
- Utilize qualitative and quantitative research results for better programming and implementation of SBC activities in the region.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, Human Nutrition, Agriculture, Environment Health, or related fields.
- Five years of experience in planning and implementing social and behavior change (SBC) interventions in Tanzania.
- Five years of experience in planning and implementing nutrition and WASH programs at the regional and council level.
- Track record of building strong client and stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to analyze data from different sources, develop innovative SBC solutions, and work effectively in demanding/busy circumstances.
- Excellent communication skills in written and oral Swahili and English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn various information systems.
- Willingness to be based in any region and travel to remote rural locations.
Position Location:
The SBC Officer position is located in the Lishe Mtambuka regional office in Njombe, Songwe, Rukwa, Katavi, and Kigoma in Tanzania. Extensive travel within the region to ensure effective project implementation is required.
