Job Overview: As a Customer Service Advisor Intern at ABSA Bank in Zanzibar, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to walk-in branch customers, as well as handling cash transactions and related instruments.

Job Description:

  1. Cash Counter Service:

    • Cash cheques and withdrawals for customers.
    • Supervise other tellers at the counter.
    • Process cash and cheque deposits/credits.
    • Handle the purchase and sale of foreign currencies.
    • Address general customer inquiries at the cash counter.
    • Balance cash in own till and assist other tellers with balancing.
    • Prepare vouchers for processing at the central processing unit.
    • Cross-sell bank products and services to customers.
    • Provide referral services for bank products.
    • Undertake customer service advisor duties when necessary.
    • Manage and resolve customer queries and complaints.
    • Assist with ATM card printing.
  2. Cash Management – Strong Room Custodianship:

    • Sort and repatriate cash.
    • Monitor cash levels in the strong room.
    • Order branch cash in accordance with limits.
    • Escalate cash issues to Branch Operation Team Leader.
    • Ensure proper packaging of cash by Customer Service Advisors.
    • Recommend cash re-order levels.
  3. Cash Management – ATM’s:

    • Restock the ATM cash supply.
    • Sort cash for the ATM to ensure cleanliness.
    • Reconcile ATM cash daily.
    • Repair small faults on ATM to minimize downtime.
    • Perform regular checks on all ATMs within the area.
  4. Colleague:

    • Provide cover for Branch custodian.
    • Offer honest, direct, and constructive feedback to colleagues.
    • Share knowledge, experience, and best practices with team members.

Risk and Controls Objectives:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Manage risk effectively by applying risk frameworks.
  • Understand own role in end-to-end processes and associated risks.
  • Adhere to Absa’s policies and procedures.
  • Report risk events/incidents/issues promptly.
  • Engage proactively with regulatory bodies.

Education:

  • Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies (Required)
