The Opportunity
We are seeking a qualified global health professional to serve as the country lead for the Community Health Workers (CHW) Activity as part of the USAID-funded Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) in Tanzania. The LHSS Project aims to assist low- and middle-income countries in transitioning to sustainable, self-financed health systems to support universal health coverage. Led by Abt Associates, this five-year initiative focuses on reducing financial barriers to healthcare, ensuring equitable access to essential services, and enhancing service quality.
Responsibilities
As the country lead for the CHW Activity, you will have the opportunity to co-design the in-country portion of the project by engaging with key stakeholders. Your responsibilities include:
- Leading the identification of key documents and stakeholders in the Tanzania CHW landscape.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders across the public and private sectors.
- Assisting the LHSS global team in organizing and executing a scoping trip, including scheduling meetings and participating in technical discussions.
- Collaborating with local stakeholders and the LHSS global team to develop a country work plan and budget.
- Serving as the primary point of contact for technical, operational, and financial matters during startup.
- Organizing and leading meetings and workshops hosted by the Activity.
- Working closely with the LHSS global team to oversee project implementation.
- Contributing to project-level reporting by documenting progress and providing routine updates.
- Participating in relevant external meetings and workshops related to CHWs in Tanzania.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, international development).
- Demonstrated experience in global health programming, particularly in community health.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluency in English and Swahili (preferred).
- Prior experience with USAID-funded projects (preferred).
