 Transportation Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Management of Transportation Activities: Oversee all aspects related to booking, planning, dispatching, routing, and tracking of trucks in Tanzania and Uganda.
  • Procedure Formulation and Implementation: Collaborate with staff members to develop and implement transportation-related procedures, aligning with company revenue goals and project services objectives.
  • Team Organization and Supervision: Organize and manage subordinate staff to ensure work is completed to project standards. Provide guidance on daily operational issues and create a positive learning environment for team members.
  • Performance Management: Conduct staff appraisals, coaching sessions, and define performance indicators for each position within the transport team. Adapt team tasks as per operational requirements and suggest organizational improvements when needed.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Maintain good relationships with transporters, conduct supplier HSE performance reviews, and ensure standardization of operating procedures with suppliers as per project requirements.
  • Operational Excellence: Monitor activity through the production of weekly and monthly reports, implement improvement plans to meet project objectives, and participate in operational meetings to implement agreed action plans.
  • QHSE Compliance: Assist in conducting investigations to resolve incidents/accidents, implement corrective actions, and participate in safety training to adhere to all project-specific health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in Freight Forwarding, with at least 5 years in a Road Freight Head or similar role.
  • Industry Knowledge: Sound understanding of local and international road transport business practices.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to maintain strong ethics in dealings with customers, suppliers, and contractors.

This role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in transportation management, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to operational excellence and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
