Duration: 6 months (with possibility of extension)

Job Summary:

The Finance Assistant/Assistant Accounts will provide efficient support to QC’s program in Tanzania, ensuring compliance with QC guidelines. The role involves data entry in the financial system, bank support activities, and disbursement functions. The incumbent will also assist in various financial tasks, including tax preparation, reconciliations, and maintaining financial documents in an organized manner.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Accurate data entry of payables and ensuring no duplication of entries.
  • Implementing procurement guidelines and procedures in line with BRAC International standards.
  • Coordinating with the procurement department for vendor file updates.
  • Reviewing petty cash expense reports for accuracy.
  • Preparing checks and/or transfer letters for vendor disbursements.
  • Ensuring effective filing of all financial documents.
  • Performing bank reconciliations for review by the line manager.
  • Assisting in the resolution of banking-related issues and new account openings.
  • Preparation of tax depositing challans for review by the line manager.
  • Assisting in monthly financial books closing.
  • Recording and monitoring all bank and cash transactions in the Excel-based cashbook.

Management:

  • Assisting in accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the organization’s internal audit program.
  • Maintaining relationships with banks to ensure access to the best financial products and services.
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements, including Corporation Tax.

Compliance and Feedback:

  • Implementing financial systems in compliance with QC financial procedures.
  • Ensuring financial systems are in line with QC financial guidelines.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial reports and compliance with donors’ requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with banking regulations and best practices.
  • Compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing fixed assets management.

Team Management and Performance:

  • Providing guidance and training to program staff on financial and accounting issues.
  • Implementing strategies for optimizing the organization’s asset base.
  • Reporting internal financial updates and participating in the budgeting process.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • BBA in Finance/Accounting or equivalent education in a related discipline.

Relevant Experience:

  • At least 3 years of accounting experience, with one year in a similar capacity.
  • Familiarity with tax laws and good practices.

Computer Knowledge:

  • Understanding of financial software and tools/systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other MIS-related software and tools.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, Arabic preferred.
  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player.
  • Well-developed ability to apply appropriate judgment and an innovative and analytical approach to problem-solving.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of tax deduction as per Government tax law.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, achieve results, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in preparing accurate budgets and cash flows.
  • Willingness to travel within the country.
