Vacancy Announcement: Optimization Manager

Lafarge Tanzania (Mbeya Cement Company Limited), a subsidiary of the Holcim Group, is seeking a highly motivated Optimization Manager for a permanent position at the Mbeya Plant. Holcim, headquartered in Switzerland, is a global leader providing innovative and sustainable building solutions with operations spanning Africa, Europe, Asia, and America.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

• Define and analyze trends in process and quality operating parameters, deducing remedial actions.
• Lead industrial product innovation and development, conducting trials and research to optimize process efficiency and reduce costs related to raw mix and cement recipe design.
• Manage alternative raw materials and fuels to achieve industrial decarbonization.
• Oversee raw materials and products inventory management, including physical stock counts and improvement actions.
• Handle key operation reports, reviewing, advising, approving, and forwarding them to management.
• Manage, coach, and develop the team, ensuring high engagement, performance, and productivity.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering or Chemistry. Registered engineer with the Engineers’ Registration Board (ERB).
• Experience: Minimum of five (5) years working experience in a similar role, with an added advantage for candidates with manufacturing sector experience.

Technical Competencies / Additional Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of the Clinker and Cement manufacturing process, raw materials, Alternative Fuels (AF), plant layout, and operational models.
• Familiarity with software like Compoptim/Optimix for designing raw mix.
• Expertise in laboratory management and cement standards.
• Understanding of cement applications and how ingredients impact them.
• Proficiency in research methods/techniques and experimentation.
• Budgeting and cost management skills.
