About Tearfund: Tearfund, a dynamic organization committed to positive change, is seeking a Lead Agriculture and Livelihoods Technical Advisor (ALTA) to join their team. The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting agricultural development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the eastern Africa region.

Position: Lead Agriculture and Livelihoods Technical Advisor

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 5 ALTAs spread across sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Provide primary technical support to Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) members and partners in the eastern Africa region.
  • Allocate 15% of time to support Tearfund’s Africa food security programming.
  • Guide capacity development for over 50 implementing NGO partners in sub-Saharan Africa through learning activities, workshops, conferences, and literature dissemination.
  • Mentor ALTAs and utilize monitoring and evaluation data to assess project outcomes.
  • Coordinate with national, regional, and global organizations promoting Agriculture and Livelihoods activities, including conservation agriculture.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in agricultural development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Background in providing agricultural extension services and working with Ministry of Agriculture staff.
  • Proficiency in program monitoring and evaluation, including project design and evaluation.
  • Track record of working effectively with and through local partners.
  • Ability to motivate and develop the skills of others.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English.

Location & Salary: This role will be based in one of Tearfund’s registered countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the salary will be dependent on the location. Candidates must have the right to live and work in Sub-Saharan Africa.
