Job Purpose and Mission

The Head BD Mini-Grids & SHS Wholesale plays a pivotal role in the development of Mini-Grids across all EEA markets. Additionally, the role involves expanding Engie MySol products into new geographic markets. The primary mission is to drive the Mini-Grids pipeline growth, explore strategic partnerships, and ensure the success of business development activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Identify Economic Activities and Partnerships:
    • Identify economic activities, potential partnerships, and methodologies for development consideration in Mini-Grids and Wholesales across all potential markets.
  2. Build and Test New Revenue Streams:
    • Design new products and services mix for Mini-Grids, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
    • Lead the building of new business activities with the support of the Global MG team.
    • Coordinate the implementation of approved new business activities.
    • Build partnerships or Joint Ventures to implement new wholesale business activities at scale.
  3. Accelerate Mini-Grid Development:
    • Drive Mini-Grid development in Africa, both with and without EEA physical presence.
    • Build strategic partnerships and joint ventures to accelerate the development of Mini-Grids.
    • Test and implement new revenue streams to support electricity demand on each Mini-Grid site.
  4. Tender Applications:
    • Support the global grant funding team on the tender coordination process.
    • Lead EEA internal process validation.
    • Manage relationships with tender stakeholders.
    • Assess upcoming tender grant opportunities and submit applications.
  5. Joint Ventures, Acquisitions, and Strategic Partnerships:
    • Build strategic partnerships or Joint Ventures at a country, regional, or continental level.
    • Present partnership/JV projects to EEA investment committees for approval.
    • Represent EEA in the case of a JV and negotiate amendments of agreements with partners.
  6. Advocacy and Relationships with Authorities:
    • Support the strategy team in defining the appropriate advocacy strategy.
    • Implement the advocacy strategy towards international donors and represent EEA in conferences focusing on energy in Africa.
  7. Wholesale & Partnership:
    • Develop and implement the B2B market expansion strategy.
    • Drive the Wholesale team in delivering the agreed wholesale budget.
    • Evaluate and analyze new B2B market entries.
    • Develop sales strategies and set quotas.
  8. Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE):
    • Ensure accountability for HSSE across all EEA Mini-Grids sites.
    • Ensure compliance with all EEA and ENGIE Group HSSE requirements.
    • Work closely with the Country Director and Country Head of Mini-Grids to deliver full compliance.
  9. Budget:
    • Develop and deliver the agreed yearly budget.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in business development and/or project management.
  • Experience in tender submissions, business modeling, and preparation of investment files and budgets.
  • Strong negotiation skills with successful experience in signing deals and building partnerships.
  • Leadership experience, including multicultural management and recruitment.
  • Strong project management skills with successful experience in innovation and time-to-market initiatives.
  • Good understanding of the energy access sector.

Qualifications:

  • Master/Bachelor of Business Administration, Economics/Political Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent.

Languages:

  • English (mandatory)
  • French (optional)
  • Portuguese (optional)

Technology:

  • Good understanding of access to energy and renewable energy technologies in the Mini-Grid and Solar Home System environment.
