Overview: UNESCO is actively engaged in assisting the Ministry of Education in Tanzania to implement an initiative focusing on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in education. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education in alignment with the SDG4 Education 2030 goals. The Associate National Project Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting the UNESCO Korea-Funds-in-Trust (KFIT) project ‘ICT Transforming Education in Africa’. The incumbent will work closely with the UNESCO Office in Dar es Salaam, under the guidance of the National Professional Officer for Education and in collaboration with the ICT in Education Unit at UNESCO Headquarters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Project Management:
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluating project activities, reporting on progress, and suggesting updates to the project log frame.
- Regularly monitor the financial status of the project, ensuring budget execution rates align with agreed plans.
- Conduct meetings of the project steering regularly, preparing minutes and action plans.
- Prepare reports on project activities for UNESCO, donors, and partners.
- Foster exchanges of information and experience to improve service delivery and meet project requirements.
b. Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluating project activities, reporting on progress and suggesting updates to the project log frame.
- Monitor the financial status of the project, ensuring budget execution rates align with agreed plans.
- Conduct periodic project reviews with government counterparts and other partners, recording results in minutes and action plans.
- Prepare reports on project activities for UNESCO, the donor, and partners.
- Provide content on major project achievements for UNESCO’s public information services.
c. Technical Assistance and Partnerships:
- Provide technical advice for KFIT project activities, participate in producing technical deliverables and policy studies, and support training programs.
- Maintain relations with national counterparts and key stakeholders, raising awareness of potential partners and solutions.
- Participate in establishing strategic long-term engagements with partners in the country.
- Mobilize UNESCO entities to support ICT in education initiatives.
d. Communication and Visibility:
- Implement the project communication and visibility plan.
- Prepare technical briefs and status updates on the project for wider dissemination.
- Organize communication events and liaise with local and international media.
- Act as a liaison between the HQ coordination team of the KFIT project and the national team.

Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in Education, ICTs in Education, Science (STEM), Instructional design, Business, Education Technology Management, Social Sciences, or related areas.
- At least two years of work experience in the field of education, preferably related to ICTs.
- Experience in supporting and coordinating project activities, preferably in large international organizations.
- Strong skills in technical project management, event planning, and presentation skills.
- Good written and oral communication skills, human relations, and team building.
- Ability to manage budgets and report on implementation.
Desirable Competencies:
- Understanding of national and international development issues.
- Work experience in African Countries in Education, particularly in Tanzania and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
- Expert knowledge or significant interest in areas such as the use of technology in developing contexts, teacher training on the pedagogical use of ICT, m-learning and e-learning, ICT policy analysis and formulation, educational audio-visual and multimedia materials in the classroom, and research-based education platforms.
- Basic understanding of the setup and administration of ICT services, networks, and mobile services.
- Experience with ICT hardware, mobile phones, and web-based technologies in education.
Language:
- Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge (reading and writing) of French is an asset.
