Responsibilities:
- Provide geotechnical input into the mining and mine planning process.
- Maintain the mine’s Ground Control Management Plan, ensuring regular updates to the document.
- Develop geotechnical stope designs.
- Design stope and development support, including primary support and cable bolt layouts.
- Design, install, evaluate, and analyze underground stability monitoring systems.
- Maintain a 3D Geotechnical block model for stope stability and ground support evaluations.
- Maintain a Life of Mine stress model, utilizing it for stope sequencing, seismic risk evaluation, and recommendations to mitigate geotechnical risks.
- Perform raise bore stability analysis.
- Conduct pillar design and analysis.
- Analyze and validate rock mass and structural logging data.
- Manage ground support project costing, budgeting, and change management.
- Oversee hydrogeological work, including the design and monitoring of hydrogeological systems.
- Train Geotechnical Engineers.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret geotechnical data.
- Ensure production team adherence to approved mine ground support standards.
- Conduct regular ground control audits and quality assurance programs.
- Review standard ground support profiles.
- Maintain adequate stocks of ground support consumables on-site.
- Provide monthly consumption reports on ground support installed.
- Implement ground control training programs when required.
- Manage ground support trials and make recommendations on their performance.
- Inspect and report on all significant ground falls.
- Advise on ground control matters and generate relevant/specific ground control designs.
- Generate weekly and monthly Geotechnical reports.
- Promote health and safety in the workplace.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and procedures.
- Comply with all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Establish and meet timelines consistently.
- Provide upward reporting as required.
Qualification Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining, Geology, or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Good understanding of trackless moving and drilling equipment.
- Computer literacy (Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Database programs).
Experience and Competencies Needed:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground mining operations.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit mining operations.
- Good understanding of mining processes.
- Knowledge of underground and open-pit mining techniques and trackless equipment employed.
- Knowledge of geotechnical software such as Map3D, Phase2, Dips, Slide3, UnWedge, RocData, FLAC3D, GEM4D.
- Knowledge of mine design software such as SURPAC, Deswik CAD, Aegis & Studio-UG.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment and analytical skills.
