Providing support to the Project Coordinator in security management and coordination tasks, ensuring a smooth relation with local and national authorities, and contributing to context analysis and follow-up according to MSF protocols, standards, and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the project.

Title: PROJECT COORDINATOR ASSISTANT

Main Purpose

The Project Coordinator Assistant represents MSF externally, monitors and reports on key issues, assists in exploratory missions and assessments, and contributes to the development of security plans. The role involves maintaining relations/networking with local actors, translating and reviewing documents, preparing and conducting briefings, and performing additional responsibilities or tasks as required by the PC.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Represent MSF externally and negotiate on behalf of the project coordination, safeguarding and promoting MSF’s image externally.
  2. Monitor, analyze, and report on key issues (security, risk, etc.) to the PC, providing contextual information through a sound knowledge of counterparts, parties, actors, authorities, and military groups.
  3. Assist in exploratory missions and assessments, participate in the development of security plans, and assist the PC in Internal and External Communication sessions and events about MSF.
  4. Ensure the continuity of relations/networking with local actors, filing and updating field contacts and correspondence, and organizing advocacy contacts and appointments for the PC.
  5. Translate and review documents, act as an interpreter when needed, and assist the PC in drafting correspondences with authorities and counterparts.
  6. Prepare and conduct context, cultural, and security briefings on the project context to new employees and ensure regular security briefings/trainings of the assessment team, drivers, and guards.
  7. Be contactable by phone and available to assist the PC with important context, security, and operational issues outside of regular working hours unless otherwise agreed with the PC.
  8. Perform additional responsibilities or tasks assigned as required by the PC.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • University Diploma Level, preferably in the field of Social Sciences (Political Sciences, International Public Law, Anthropology, Economics, etc.)

Experience:

  • Essential: Experience in and exposure to working in a complicated political, security, and humanitarian environment.
  • Essential: Experience in data collection, reporting, and analysis.
  • Desirable: Two years of previous experience in similar jobs in the field of humanitarian aid with MSF or other NGOs.
  • Desirable: Management experience.

Knowledge:

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, Internet/social media)
  • Excellent understanding of MSF’s principles and values.
  • In-depth contextual knowledge and analysis skills.
  • High level of knowledge of local culture and customs.

Languages:

  • Knowledge of both English and Kiswahili is mandatory.
