Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to humanitarian crises worldwide, providing essential support to help communities survive and rebuild. In Tanzania, the IRC works to provide protection and assistance to refugees from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as host communities, particularly in the Kigoma region. We focus on areas such as safety, health, and education to support the well-being and resilience of those affected by crises.
Job Overview:
The Pharmaceutical Technicians will be integral members of the health programs in the Kigoma Region, contributing to the provision of quality healthcare services. They will be responsible for dispensing medication to patients as prescribed by healthcare providers, managing pharmaceutical inventory, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with key stakeholders in the field. These positions offer an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dispensing and Patient Interaction:
- Dispense prescribed medication accurately and provide counseling to patients on medication usage.
- Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and documentation of medications.
- Inventory Management:
- Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including storage, stock levels, and expiration dates.
- Select drugs and supplies based on diagnosis data and maintain accurate records.
- Record Keeping and Administrative Duties:
- Maintain up-to-date patient and medication records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Coordinate shipments and oversee administrative tasks related to pharmacy operations.
- Professional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure effective medication management.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to local regulations and healthcare standards, maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and participate in emergency preparedness.
- Continuing Education:
- Stay informed about developments in the pharmaceutical field through training and education initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Pharmacy.
- Registered with the Pharmacist Council of Tanzania and possess a valid practicing license.
- Over two (2) years of experience working in a healthcare facility.
- Experience in humanitarian settings is desirable.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong clinical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
- Ability to work under pressure with resilience and compassion.
- Analytical and self-motivated with good communication skills.
- Proficiency in English and Swahili; knowledge of Kirundi is an advantage.
