Position Description

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct rigging studies for all lifting activities on the mine.
  2. Implement controls for the safe use and movement of lifting equipment on the mine.
  3. Monitor, plan, and maintain all crane wire ropes, rigging, and related equipment.
  4. Ensure proper maintenance, repair, and inspection of all lifting gears and ropes in compliance with statutory provisions.
  5. Develop and adhere to relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for work activities involving continuous lifting and/or lowering.
  6. Maintain legal and related registers for all lifting equipment and gears.
  7. Inspect and certify all lifting gears in accordance with OSHAS and MHSA provisions.
  8. Clean, measure, and dress steel wire ropes and chains used on various lifting equipment.
  9. Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear using hand and power tools.
  10. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials.
  11. Train and develop employees for the positions of Rigger/Ropesman as per the North Mara succession plan.

Qualification Requirements

  • Secondary School Education Certificate.
  • Qualified Rigger with a Trade Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • VETA Driving Certificate.
  • Possess a Valid Tanzanian driving license class B, C, D, and E.
  • Ability to Drive Manual Transmission/Stick Shift Transmission.
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practices.

Experience and Competencies Needed

  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience as a rigger or ropesman.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill competencies in safe lifting techniques, lifting gear selection, determination of weights and mass, and crane movement directing.
  • Verification of training and experience in operating various industrial machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate equipment such as forklifts, loaders, overhead cranes, self-loading vehicle cranes, trucks, mobile cranes, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills in the English language.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Ability to operate with minimum supervision.
  • High professional conduct and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.
