About the Job

Our client is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning & Monitoring Manager for our sugar cane plantation in Chembe, Zambia. This role is pivotal in enhancing the operational efficiency and productivity of our plantation. The Planning & Monitoring Manager will work closely with finance, farm managers, and the scouting team to ensure effective management of resources, quality of agricultural activities, and overall crop health.

Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Collaborate with the finance department to develop and maintain robust reporting mechanisms.
    • Provide farm managers with regular financial reports, highlighting cost versus budget, to facilitate a profit and loss (P&L) mindset in managing their respective farms.
  2. Quality Assurance and Audit:
    • Regularly audit the work of farm managers to ensure that agricultural activities are carried out with the highest quality and within set timelines.
    • Implement and oversee quality control measures to maintain and enhance agricultural practices.
  3. Scouting Team Management:

    • Lead and manage the scouting team responsible for monitoring crop health, soil conditions, and identifying pest and disease threats.
    • Utilize data collected by the scouting team to inform and adjust agricultural strategies and practices.
  4. Strategic Planning:
    • Actively brainstorm and propose innovative methods to optimize production and resource utilization.
    • Stay abreast of advancements in agricultural technology and practices, especially in sugar cane cultivation, to continually improve plantation operations.

Key Skills:

  • Strong understanding of agricultural financial management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading teams and managing projects effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of crop health, soil management, and pest and disease control in sugar cane cultivation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with different departments to achieve common goals.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Farm Manager, ideally within the sugar cane industry or similar agricultural sectors.
  • Relevant educational background in Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
