About APOPO:
APOPO is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our international team as a Financial Controller. APOPO is a global leader in scent detection animals, utilizing trained rats (HeroRATs) and Mine Detection Dogs (HeroDOGs) to address mine action and tuberculosis (TB) control. As a Financial Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity and stability of our organization.
Role Overview:
As the Financial Controller, you will have diverse responsibilities, including overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, analytical accounting, internal control, and cost control management. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in an internationally oriented environment. Frequent international travel is required to support APOPO project countries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and analytical accounting.
- Manage financial systems (ERP), donor contract follow-up, and ensure compliance with financial protocols.
- Work closely with the CFO and provide support to APOPO project countries through international travel.
- Facilitate effective collaboration with the CFO based in Morogoro, Tanzania.
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and regulations.
- Utilize ERP systems and financial software, including Sage BOB 50, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and Microsoft Power BI.
- Possess an international driver’s permit and be willing to travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business management, or a related field.
- CPA, MBA, or MSA certification is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulations.
- Experience with major donors, such as WRA, DGD, DFID, European Commission, Flemish Government, Belgian DGD, or UNDP.
- Proficient in using ERP systems and advanced knowledge of financial software.
- Fluency in English.
- 4+ years of proven experience in a similar finance role.
- Experience working in non-profit organizations, particularly in low- to lower-middle-income countries.
- Experience working with intercultural teams is an asset.
