Position: Business Software Developer

Location: Dar es Salaam

Access Microfinance Bank Tanzania Limited (AMBT)

Access Microfinance Bank Tanzania Limited (AMBT) is a Microfinance Bank with very strong international shareholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct in-depth research and business analysis of the bank’s operating process.
  2. Design creative prototypes according to specifications.
  3. Establish a detailed program specification through discussion with both internal and external AMBT clients.
  4. Perform unit and integration testing before launch.
  5. Conduct human-centric design processes.
  6. Develop new software, mobile applications, web-based interfaces, and backend data management under the directives and instruction of the Head of Technology.
  7. Develop and maintain new databases.
  8. Collaborate closely with IT, Business Development, and the entire AMBT team to set specifications for new applications.
  9. Write high-quality source code to program complete applications within deadlines.
  10. Conduct functional and non-functional testing.
  11. Understand the current infrastructure of the bank and help improve the procedures in place.
  12. Design and set up an OLAP database with a day-end update frequency with ETL interfaces for multiple disparate systems.
  13. Conduct external market research where necessary.
  14. Coordinate between AMBT and vendor Service Delivery Manager on the timely delivery of new releases, versions, and patches for CBS and related software components.
  15. Liaise with software vendors on the resolution of errors, bugs, and problems reported on the projects.
  16. Install and set up the test environment for CBS, SMS notification, Mobile banking, Agency banking.
  17. Coordinate between the Bank and the vendor to ensure that all changes involving CBS and related software components are compiled and submitted on time.
  18. Resolve reported CBS and related component service requests reported through the ticketing system.

Requirements and Baseline Skills:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a comparable qualification.
  • Database skills (design schema, normalization, etc.), reports, and web-based application design.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with ETL and OLAP concepts.
  • Experience in CodeIgniter, Laravel, WordPress, Cordova, Ionic.
  • Experience in Restful/SOAP API Development and Integration.
  • Proficient in MySQL, MSSQL.
  • Knowledge of Java, Hadoop, or Hibernate.
  • Experience in GitHub is a must.
  • Experience in Odoo, Docker, Kubernetes will be an added advantage.
  • Problem-solving, analytical, and process-oriented.
  • Disciplined approach towards daily operations and documentation.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to take responsibility and work on own initiative.
  • Genuine passion for technology, innovation, databases, and mobile applications.
