Are you passionate about youth skills development and empowerment? Swisscontact, through the Skills for Employment (SET) program, is actively seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to join our team as the “Youth Skills Development Coordinator.” This role, based in our Morogoro offices, offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of youth employment and vocational skills development in Tanzania.

Background:

Skills for Employment (SET) is a program supported by the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) and implemented in Tanzania. The program focuses on improving youth (self-)employment through the Vocational Skills Development system. Swisscontact collaborates with government and private sector stakeholders to provide quality training that aligns with both economic demand and the needs of youth. The initiative enhances labor market data, improves vocational teacher quality, and offers practical vocational training, particularly for women and young mothers.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Youth Skills Development Coordinator will:

  1. Develop, establish, and monitor youth training projects with training providers (TPs) and the private sector.
  2. Quality assure the implementation and documentation provided for training projects by TPs and the private sector.
  3. Support networking and capacity building for public and private training.
  4. Follow Swisscontact’s rules and procedures such as the Code of Conduct (CoC) and Country Manual.

Tasks:

The Youth Skills Development Coordinator will implement the following tasks:

Youth Training:

  • Identify opportunities for skills development and youth employment in the Morogoro region.
  • Identify private sector organizations as potential partners for SET.
  • Design suitable youth packages (technical and employability skills) in collaboration with the team leader and other SET staff.
  • Develop and manage technical and financial contracts with selected training providers.
  • Ensure monitoring procedures are implemented in line with the MRM procedures of SET.
  • Quality assure the implementation of contracts and prepare technical and monitoring reports.

Capacity Building of Training Providers:

  • Support networking of training providers in Morogoro and other regions.
  • Maintain information on feasible training providers and organize capacity building for TPs.
  • Identify training needs and manage the development of the capacity-building program for TPs.

Other Tasks:

  • Provide inputs to SET reporting to Government and SDC.
  • Collaborate with MRM to ensure monitoring data alignment and participate in MRM meetings.
  • Work with GESI and the young mother coordinator to achieve related targets and ensure GESI is a crosscutting issue in all SET activities.
  • Establish YPOs, budget, and other administrative reports related to Youth training in collaboration with the GESI and Young Mother Training and the skills coordinator, Iringa.
  • Perform other tasks as agreed with the Team Leader.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in community development, rural development, entrepreneurship, or a related subject.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience related to vocational skills development, livelihood development, and/or entrepreneurship.
  • Experience in working with youth, young mothers, or other marginalized groups.
  • Excellent communication skills with a good level of written and spoken English.
  • Results-oriented professional with excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact positively with all stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Empathy, good sense of humor, and drive to achieve results.
