Position: Senior Accounting Officer

Reports to: Assistant Finance Manager, Finance Manager

Location: Head Office, Dar es Salaam

Contract Duration: 1 Year (Contract extension subject to funding availability, performance, or/and mutual agreement)

Role Overview:

Good Neighbors Tanzania is seeking individuals to join its highly motivated team as a Senior Accounting Officer. Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager and Finance Manager, the Senior Accounting Officer will be responsible for ensuring effective financial management, fund management, and adherence to accounting procedures, financial standards, and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and control project budgets and annual work plans in Financial Management.
  • Establish and implement financial procedures aligned with organizational accounting procedures and the financial manual.
  • Prepare Bank Payment Vouchers, Transfer Letters, and Income Vouchers for approved budget requests and remittances.
  • Generate monthly finance reports according to organizational templates and requirements.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, prepayments, and payables.
  • Ensure the budget management tool is consistently updated and effectively identifies, prevents, detects, and corrects non-compliance with internal policies and financial management requirements.
  • Lead the development, monitoring, and review of accurate budgets, tracking expenditures, and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Establish and enforce financial controls, ensuring compliance with award terms, conditions, and organizational policies.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • University Degree/Advanced diploma in accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in donor-funded projects and financial management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • Experience in financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional time, task, and resource management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
