Position Title: Analytical Chemist

Job Summary: As an Analytical Chemist at METS, you will play a crucial role in planning, supervising day-to-day operations related to the Mineral Analytical Laboratory. Your responsibilities will include ensuring accurate and timely testing, implementing and maintaining the Laboratory Quality System, and upholding ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Quality Standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and control all aspects of the Analytical Laboratory, ensuring analysis and reporting align with Laboratory Quality Systems.
  • Implement, maintain, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Laboratory’s Quality System, complying with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Perform internal audits of the Laboratory, including technical and quality systems audits, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Monitor testing with adequate internal quality control and participate in proficiency testing.
  • Accurately report and interpret test results, trends, and investigate non-conforming results.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date quality records, data, and information as per laboratory quality system requirements.
  • Participate in new instrument, analytical method, and test validation/verification.
  • Prepare and submit purchase requests for equipment and laboratory supplies.
  • Promote good customer relations, respond to client inquiries, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepare detailed laboratory reports and documentation according to ISO 17025 standards.
  • Promote safe attitudes and work practices, ensuring adherence to safety standards and protocols.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry.
  • 5 years of experience in laboratory management.
  • Good laboratory skills, safety practices, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Key Knowledge, Attributes, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of ISO standards and certification processes.
  • Strong time management and efficient working practices.
  • Analytical approach to work and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, email, and the internet.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Physical Environmental Risk Exposure:

  • Mostly office/lab conditions.
