JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sustainable Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for the management and implementation of a portfolio of TRAFFIC projects relating to the use of and trade in wild-collected plant resources, with a focus on ensuring strengthened sustainability, traceability, and legality of trade. This includes the project “Himalayan plants for people: sustainable trade for biodiversity and development”, funded through the UK government Darwin Initiative (implemented until June 2024), and other donor-funded projects.
As TRAFFIC builds a broader portfolio of work around sustainable supply chains the Sustainable Supply Chain Manager will advise on the development and delivery of activities in the areas of business engagement and responsible supply chains across TRAFFIC’s global and regional teams, building on an emphasis on trade in wild plant ingredients.
Specific Duties:
- Manages the implementation of projects and activities related to the use of and trade in wild-collected plant resources;
- Works closely with project partners, ensuring timely delivery of activities, donor project, and TRAFFIC programme-level reporting;
- Delivers partners’ capacity-building on support to the implementation of good practices in sustainable, traceable, equitable trade, including of the FairWild Standard requirements;
- Develops supply chain traceability approaches for the implementation in project context;
- Collaborates with the Development team to fundraise and co-ordinate across TRAFFIC in strengthening and developing the donor portfolio in this thematic area.
- Leads on research outputs of relevance to the responsible supply chains area of work, focussed on the sustainability of trade in wild plant ingredients.
- Identifies and fosters public-private, and business-to-business partnerships in target supply chains, including building on the WildCheck initiative.
- Contributes to the engagement with the FairWild Foundation under the Partnership Agreement with TRAFFIC, and pursues other partnerships as relevant and prioritized;
- Coordinates project and thematic communications, through TRAFFIC and external social media and other materials.
- Advises TRAFFIC on emerging issues and opportunities for engagement around responsible supply chain development, within the scope of TRAFFIC’s global programme and work plans.
- Supports implementation of TRAFFIC’s work on wild plant supply chains intervention and broader responsible supply chains work, ensuring that network delivery is effectively, efficiently and to expected TRAFFIC quality standards;
- Supports capacity-building within TRAFFIC on issues of responsible supply chains.
Requirements:
- Experience with supply chain traceability, standards, including with the private sector;
- Conservation project management experience;
- Firm understanding of corporate sustainability, including biodiversity risks, social and human rights issues, and purpose agenda;
- Experience in developing partnerships and supply chain interventions (commercial or charity setting);
- Educated to a degree level or equivalent;
- Understanding of, and passion for, TRAFFIC mission;
- Ability to work under pressure and to set own work priorities as appropriate;
- Strong communication, analytical, and presentation skills, including strong writing abilities in the English language; multi-media communications experience an asset;
- Other languages, in particular German, French or Spanish desirable;
- An ability to work cooperatively as part of a small team with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in different cultural contexts.
