Energy and Environmental Technical Assistant

- Role and responsibilities
The Energy and Environmental Technical Assistant is responsible for NRC’s compounds maintenance (Dadaab, Hagadera and Dagahaley including the training centres and the AEP schools)
Key Responsibilities
Electrical/Solar
- Install, Repair, and maintain electrical/Solar appliances in the NRC compounds/schools/AEP centres.
- Monitoring of all electrical/Solar installations in the compounds and making recommendations of their replacements or repairs.
- To keep records of all the electrical/Solar repairs that has been done in the three camps.
- To keep records on all electrical/Solar spares which have been used in each camp.
- To prepare monthly reports on jobs and conditions of all the relevant systems.
- Technical designs of the power grid for the NRC compounds in Hagadera, Dadaab and Dagahaley and TVET centres and AEP centres.
- Prepare the BoQs for all electrical/Solar power installations in NRC compounds.
- Together with the Administration Officer, maintain cleanliness and safety of the gensets, Solar Panels and water pumps.
- Supporting the Administration Officer in procurement of the necessary fast moving spare parts and working tools for the repair and maintenance of electricity in the 3 camps.
Plumbing
- Support in repair and maintenance of water pipes, pumps, taps and drainage systems in the NRC compounds.
TVET Electrical instruction
- Plan and implement instructional activities for the students as per the syllabus to ensure active and meaningful learning experience
- Preparing and maintain teacher professional records not limited to schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, record of work covered and other records
- Maintain current students’ attendance records and make them readily available to the supervisor
- Preparing and using learning aids to deliver the prescribed curriculum.
- Assess and evaluate students continuously as per the training program requirements and maintain students’ progress records.
- Provide feedback to parents and project officer on pupil’s progress during education forums and report forms
- Responsible for the Registration and conduction of National Examinations for his Learners.
- Make certain that course syllabus is completed in time
- Report for duty and lessons on time as required by the organization policy
- Prepare and maintain updated inventory of training resources assigned
- Ensure that safety precautions are observed in the workshop always
- Participate in mobilization, recruitment, and retention of learners
- Maintaining students discipline
- Participate in guiding and counseling students
- Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation through provision of stimulating activities that will arouse their curiosity, interest, and enhance their discovery and observation skills.
- Working with the school management and other stakeholders to ensure meaningful participation of learners in all aspects of education.
- Taking part in school events and coordinating co-curriculum activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Generic professional competencies for this position:
- Diploma in Electrical Wiring or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- An Updated ERC License.
- Diploma in Plumbing from a recognized institution or its equivalent is an added advantage.
- At least two years’ experience in the same profession, NGO experience & knowledge is an added advantage.
- Good computer application skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, database and network communications
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Environment conscious.
