Video Journalist
Job Introduction
- BBC Africa draws on its extensive network of journalists to deliver the biggest stories from across the continent and its diaspora. The service aims to make, explain and connect African and global stories by providing a unique insight into the main stories of the day in original formats.
- The African service digital offer consists of websites, mobile sites and social media with all services providing multimedia content in text, video, interactive and audio for radio, online, TV, mobile and social media platforms.
Role Responsibility
- Working in a multimedia team of journalists, the post holder will report to the Swahili service editor. The main focus of the Video Journalist role is to routinely self-shoot and edit complete news packages, or equivalent. The post holder will also be expected to undertake any of the key responsibilities including using a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, shoot, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards – recognising the distinct requirements of different types of output
The Ideal Candidate
- The successful candidate will be fluent in Swahili and English language (written and spoken) and have significant experience as a journalist with a good knowledge of production techniques – especially self-shooting and editing. You will have the ability to gather and prepare audio and video material for use on any service, recognising the distinct requirements of different types of output, self-shooting and editing routinely as the main focus of the role. Strong record of originating and developing stories for news programmes with the ability to use technology as required, gathering material for broadcast.
- To succeed in this role you will need to be an experienced journalist with a collaborative and supportive approach to deliver creative, high-quality journalism that meets the editorial standards of the BBC and the specific requirements of our audiences.
