ABOUT THE POSITION

WorldFish seeks to recruit an experienced Research Assistant to work as part of a team to national and international researchers conducting applied research on breeding and mass production of several micronutrient rich small indigenous fish species (SIS). This research will contribute to commercialization of SIS aquaculture and the design and scaling of more effective innovations to improve nutrition. The project research in Bangladesh will focus on conducting surveys of members of households previously trained in SIS-carp polyculture technologies by WorldFish, to understand the extent and causes of continued SIS-carp polyculture technology adoption, adaptation, or dis-adoption.

The Successful Candidate will

• Conduct extensive survey pretesting activities and provide accurate feedback on questionnaire design.
• Train and closely supervise a small team of enumerators during survey implementation.
• Conduct structured survey interviews, as required.
• Conduct post-interview spot checks with respondents in person or by phone.
• Check all questionnaires submitted to KoBo Toolbox daily for data validity and quality control.
• Conduct in depth semi-structured interviews and run focus groups as required.
• Other data collection activities, as required.
• Write up interview notes and transcripts, including translation if required.
• Interact with collaborators and project partners, including international staff.
Requirements

This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor / Bachelor of Science or Master’s Degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
• Previous experience of implementing aquaculture household surveys in the field.
• Experience of pretesting questionnaires.
• Experience the implementing surveys and collecting data in a reputable research organization.
• Ability to live and work away from home in remote rural areas for extended periods of time.
• Experience of using digital data collection platforms such as KoBo Toolbox.
• Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.

Salary and Benefits

This is an eight (8) months temporary position with salary ranging in between BDT 55,421 to BDT 65,812 monthly. WorldFish temporary staff shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff.

Eligibility, Location and Duration

This position will be based in Barisal, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held by end of August 2021 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence in September 2021 for an initial eight (8) months temporary contract.
