Afrocab Treatment Access Partnership (Afrocab) stands at the forefront of the fight against HIV, uniting African community leaders and advocates to accelerate access to optimal treatments and prevention products. Operating primarily in sub-Saharan Africa with its headquarters in Zambia, Afrocab, since its establishment in 2011, has been instrumental in facilitating dialogue between community leaders and stakeholders such as multinational drug manufacturers, policymakers, UN agencies, and civil society organizations. Focused on global advocacy, building networks, and coordination at continental and country levels, Afrocab is committed to creating an ecosystem for delivering high-quality, cost-effective HIV treatment in Africa.
Position Overview: Technical Director (Chief Operating Officer)
As Afrocab enters its next phase of growth, we are in search of a visionary Technical Director to shape the organization’s technical priorities and advocacy focal areas. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Technical Director will lead strategic initiatives, engage with key stakeholders, and provide leadership to the Afrocab team, aligning efforts across countries and partners.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Drive the development, execution, and monitoring of strategic priorities.
- Set vision, strategies, and approaches to achieve annual programmatic goals and targets.
- Partnership Management:
- Manage multidisciplinary partnerships to accelerate access to HIV products.
- Collaborate with product developers, policymakers, donors, and civil society to implement community access programs.
- Technical Guidance:
- Provide overall technical leadership for advocacy initiatives.
- Stay abreast of developments, research, and best practices in HIV prevention, treatment, care, and advocacy.
- Initiatives and Programs:
- Lead the initiation and execution of new programs, exploring additional areas aligned with evidence-based best practices.
- Capacity Building and Communication:
- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of advocates and community members.
- Translate technical information into actionable strategies and plans.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect, analyze, and report on program data to inform decision-making and demonstrate impact.
- Financial Oversight and Relationship Management:
- Oversee program budgets, review and inform financial reports for donors.
- Manage strategic relationships with global and in-country partners and funders.
- Team Leadership:
- Shape the culture and dynamics of the Afrocab team.
- Make hiring and compensation decisions, support onboarding and recruitment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- 8-10 years of relevant work experience in market access for new drugs, especially focused on HIV and/or infectious diseases in the Global South.
- Experience mobilizing communities at the grassroots level is highly preferred.
- Strong strategic thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office and database management systems.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel.
