The role
The role is responsible for providing Civil Engineering capabilities in support of DRA’s In-Country General Manager and DRA’s in-country project requirements. This includes Technical support in the securing and delivering of DRA studies and projects, Site construction support, interfacing with the DRA engineering and design office, mentoring of junior resources as well as client relationship-building opportunities that are related to DRA in-country activities and interests.
The role is furthermore also responsible for undertaking civil engineering reviews and assessments for purposes of supporting DRA’s clients as may be required for business development and/or for project/study-related activities including construction management. Whilst the role is primarily intended for in-country support, the responsibilities may extend to cross-border project allocations depending on the DRA pipeline of work.

- Civil Engineering Technical Support
- Client support as may be required by Country Manager
- Conceptual design input into the DRA design office

Key performance areas
Technical Support
- Participate in preparation of proposals
- Participate in preparation of tenders and adjudications
- Participate in preparation of Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Study documents.
- Budgeting – Cost Estimates for small works in liaison with Proposals team
- Prepare Bills of Quantities, Scope definitions, Specifications and Contract Documents for proposed Civil & Structural works in liaison with proposals department
- Understanding of Project Scheduling
- Projects costs control – monitoring projects cash flows in liaison with cost controllers
- Attend to site clarifications on proposals
- Setting out project works in accordance with Drawings and Specifications
- Preparing enquiry and order documents
Engineering
- Interfaces with DRA and external design and drafting disciplines.
- Ensures innovative civils and infrastructure designs are completed following good engineering practices and in accordance with client standards and specifications, industry standards and the relevant legislation (quality of design
- Ensures effective (peer) review and approval of discipline design deliverables is completed.
- Provides discipline inputs for studies and proposals.
Site Construction Support
- Provides engineering support to the site team.
- Monitoring and inspecting in-house projects, external contractors and sub-contractors
- Attend contractor kick-off meetings;
- Attend construction progress meetings;
- Attend site safety meetings;
- Provides input into all SHE matters, actively participate and promote a total safety culture.
- Construction supervision of works ensuring adherence to Time, Scope, Quality and Customer Satisfaction.
Site Technical Queries
- Keeps an up-to-date register of all Field Engineering Queries (FEQ’s) from the respective on-site contractors.
- Provide technical assistance where necessary or ensure the FEQ is sent to the correct person for comment.
- Ensure all comments are received back from DRA within the agreed time frames;
- Contract Management Incorporating FIDIC/NEC conditions of contract.
- General Contracts Administration
- Compliance with Safety Health and Environmental policies.
- Ensure all applicable drawings are available to the contractor/s timeously
- Check all drawings received on sites to ensure they conform to existing conditions;
- Manages the markup and back draughting of redline drawings.
Operational Management
- Ensures that reports are structured, accurate, complete and well presented.
- Displays proactive communication with project team with respect to discipline interface and problem-solving.
- Ensures that relevant project procedures are complied with.
- Ensures that fabrication, manufacturing and construction drawings are issued according to project programme.
- Manages the programme (time), cost, quality, risk and scope of assigned procurement packages.
- Ensures assigned packages are installed/constructed in accordance with the project & vendor specifications.
- Manages, inspects and releases the relevant items of procurement, fabrication and construction within area of discipline and responsibility
- Manages and mentors subordinators as applicable
Client Relationship Building
- Research and build relationships with new clients.
- Identify the decision-makers and influencers within the client organisation.
- Maintain and augment existing as well as new client relationships to ensure business opportunities.
- Networking with other industry professionals.
- Ensures that all interactions with Clients are conducted in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ensures that Clients are kept informed and up to date on the status of project technical aspects.
- Ensures that DRA remains the Client engineering service provider of choice.
- Liaises and coordinates with the client’s discipline engineers to ensure adherence to project and client requirements and specifications.
New Business Development
- Prospect for new leads and/or clients by networking and other means of generating interest from potential clients.
- Identify, prioritise and develop new leads for the company in the sourcing, design and construction of Infrastructure Projects.
- Assisting Country Manager with new market development through Country business plan development and securing of new opportunities.
- Assist with Assessing local market conditions and identify current and prospective sales opportunities.
- Assist with Linking the Country's business strategy to the Central Region business development strategy.
- Ensure the development of an aftermarket strategy and network development.
- Participate in creating and executing of yearly Country roadmap objectives.
- Ensure aftermarket opportunities and obligations are industrialized.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering essential
- Professional Registered Engineer/Technologist (PrEng/PrTech) essential
- PMP advantageous
Experience
- 15+ years of major Civils and Infrastructure Projects essential
- 10+ years of Mining and Process Plant Civils and Infrastructure Projects advantageous
